Ingredients
  

  • 1 8-ounce box elbow macaroni
  • ¼ cup butter
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Ground black pepper to taste
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions
 

  • Boil elbow macaroni in salted water until al dente, about 8 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  • In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add flour, salt, and pepper, whisking until smooth.
  • Gradually add milk while stirring. Cook until the sauce thickens, about 5 minutes.
  • Reduce heat to low and stir in shredded cheddar cheese until fully melted.
  • Combine cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce. Stir until evenly coated.
  • Serve hot and enjoy.

  • For baked mac and cheese, transfer to a baking dish, top with breadcrumbs, and bake at 350°F (177°C) for 15 minutes.
