- 10 oz 284g butter
- 10 oz sugar
- 5 large eggs
- 10 oz self-rising flour
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- A pinch of salt
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a cake pan.
Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each.
Mix in vanilla extract and salt.
Fold in flour in batches.
Pour batter into the cake pan, tap to release air bubbles.
Bake for 30-40 minutes until the top springs back when touched.
Cool for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

- Substitute eggs with applesauce for an eggless version.
- Use all-purpose flour with baking powder if self-rising flour is unavailable.
